Trust the lean
of a norfolk pine.
Trace the wooden arrow up.
“Trust in what?” I ask.
“In the blue nothing
of a peaceful mind,” it replies.
I search the shadow
of this zen tree.
It stands, upright and balanced.
Each upturned limb, smiles.
It suggests to my seeking mind,
that grace is in symmetry, simple being.
Trust the lean
of a norfolk pine.
Climb its wise ladder
to clear sky and mind.
Experience the direction
of open, open.
Slowing down, down.
Take root as disciple to the norfolk monk.
Bow, bow.
To the buddha mind.
THE NOISY MIND
Also trust your wonderful noisy mind
which moves and jerks around
like an excellent amusement park ride
because it also
is completely empty and quiet
but just doesn’t seem like it.
